Abstract
In this study, has been conducted polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane preparation process using a phase inversion method with immersion-precipitation technique and its use in the separation of the indigo textile dye. To be able to produce the highest quality PVDF membrane, conducted research on the effect of casting solution and non-solvent composition on the morphology, mechanical strength (young's modulus) , flux and rejection coefficient of PVDF membrane. The results obtained show that, in the composition of the casting solution 16%PVDF/84%NMP/0%NH4Cl and nonsolvent 50%H2O - 100%H2O, has been formed a PVDF membrane with asymmetry structure (a combination of sponge and finger pore) and pore size of 206.1 - 263.9 nm. Meanwhile, the variations in the composition of casting solution (14% PVDF/84%NMP/2%NH4Cl - 16%PVDF/84%NMP/0%NH4Cl) and non-solvent composition (100%H2O/0%C2H5OH - 0%H2O/100%C2H5OH) , produced the PVDF membrane with mechanical strength and flux, respectively in the range of 1237.62 - 5583.44 N/m2 and 1421,868 - 2214,367 L/m2.jam. Furthermore, to determine the selectivity of the PVDF membrane in separation indigo dye, indigo dye (50 ppm) filtration process is carried out on pressure 1 atm and the result is a rejection coefficient values obtained in the range of 82.12 - 95.77%. It shows that the selectivity level of the filtration process is carried out, has been obtained permeate concentrations were in the range 8.94 - 2.12 ppm. Data analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) showed a significant effect of casting solution and non-solvent composition to mechanical strength, flux and rejection coefficient of PVDF membrane. © Research India Publications.
